The fastest type of shark to be recorded at speed was the Mako shark.  The mako shark's speed can balloon up to 95 km an hour.

The largest type of shark is called the whale shark which can grow up to 40 ft. & weigh up to 40 tons.

On the other hand, the smallest sharks are 6 inches long & weighs only one ounce.  Smaller, lighter sharks such as the Mako & tiger sharks swim at high velocity.  Heavier sharks such as the whale shark swim at much lower speed.  The normal cruising rate of a shark is 2 miles per hour during the day.  However, at night when the shark is more active or on the hunt its speed is greater, however, sharks can only swim short distances at high speeds.  The speeds collected from average shark's speed ranged from about 10 to nearly 30 metres per second.
